Laois Aussie Rules star Zach Tuohy honoured in his native Portlaoise

Portlaoise's Australian Rules star Zach Tuohy thanked his family, community, friends and especially Portlaoise GAA club for all he has achieved in sport in Australia.

A big crowd attended the presentation by Portlaoise Municipal District, of the Certificate of Achievement Award to Zach at Laois County Council on Thursday night.

The former Laois minor star, who still comes home to play Gaelic Football for Portlaoise GAA club, is the first recipient of the award.

The certificate was presented by Portlaoise Municipal District Chairman Cllr John Joe Fennelly.

Portlaoise GAA chairman John Hanniffy heralded Zach as "an ambassador for Portlaoise".

Speaking to the Leinster Express, Zach was humbled by the award. He thanked family, community and his club in Ireland for providing him with the skills to reach the top in what is Australia's biggest sport.

He said he would always be a proud Portlaoise man.
