Portlaoise’s U-14 rugby team saw their season come to an end recently, but they could look back on a hugely successful season for all involved.

A large crowd for both Portlaoise and Naas flocked to Donnybrook to support their clubs in the U-13’s McGowan Cup Final on Monday, May 6.

There was another full house at Portarlington RFC last week as the club members brought the curtain down on another successful season both on and off the pitch.

Portarlington U-18 Girls travelled to Wicklow RFC to participate in the season ending blitz.

An excellent second-half penalty from PJ Daly fired Portlaoise to victory in the Leinster Premier League in Edenderry last week against Tullamore.

Portarlington U-17’s captured the Old Wesley Challenge Plate in dramatic fashion last Saturday after a tense finale with local rivals Newbridge. After travelling up that morning Port found themselves placed in a varied group with teams from Leinster, Munster, Ulster and the Dublin Metro League.

There was heartbreak for Portarlington’s U-13s and their coach Tony Jewell as West Offaly took the spoils in Edenderry last Sunday.

Portlaoise hosted a North Kildare side in Tougher on Tuesday night in the Area League semi final and staged a remarkable fightback to win.

Portlaoise travelled to Athy on Friday night to play Cill Dara in the Final of the area league and came out on top by 15-10.

After a difficult start to the season Portarlington RFC U-13s will be delighted to find themselves hitting their stride at the business end of the season as they look forward to a Leinster League Final having powered past a resolute Cill Dara side last Tuesday night.

Portlaoise faced Mullingar in the semi final of the McGowan cup and played their match at Tullamore RFC.
