PORTARLINGTON BNS recently had a very active Seachtain na Gaeilge. The week began with a lot of planning and organising as 6th class were taking on the enormous task of creating a radio programme thaat would air on the internet on the five school days of Seachtain na Gaeilge.

All classes participated in the project and the radio programmes can be heard on the school website and downloaded on itunes. On the programme, listeners can hear interviews with teachers, a quiz with the principal, jokes, a dramatisation of “Cinnín Óir agus na Trí Bhéar”, songs, poems, rhymes and much more.

Following on from this project the boys of 1st and 2nd class competed in a soccer tournament through Irish, 3rd class had an Irish words competition, with Andy Cash and Jack Thunder winning, and the boys from 4th, 5th and 6th class competed in an irish table quiz, with the winners of the competition in the end being – Ryan McLaren, Jason Conlon, Christopher Hodgins and Aidan Kennedy. The boys are already looking forward to next year’s Seachtain na Gaeilge.
