A LAOIS Macra team recently won the All-Ireland ‘Know Your Agriculture’ table quiz. Durrow/Abbeyleix Macra emerged as winners in the he All Ireland final of Macra na Feirme’s annual Irish Farmers Journal Know Your Agriculture quiz which was held recently in Waterford.

Four members of the club won the county round of the table quiz and they then went on to represent the county in the All-Ireland final. The members were Patrick Hennessy, Bernard Dunne Thomas Delaney and Sarah Delaney.

The team answered questions ranging from a wide variety of agricultural questions to both current and historical. They faced off strong opposition but managed to get the most amount of questions answered on the night correctly and won the quiz.

The quiz was devised with the aim of encouraging Macra members to explore their agricultural knowledge, to study agricultural literature and to broaden the range of topics covered by young farmer discussion groups around the country. Quizmaster on the night was Brian Hynes from the Irish Farmers’ Journal, who also compiled the questions. The winning team have now secured themselves a place on the Macra prizewinners’ trip next autumn.

A huge crowd from both club and county traveled to Waterford to support them on the night. This was another great win for the club, helping it grow from strength to strength. Durrow/Abbeyleix hope that this is just one win of many for the year ahead. Those interested in joining the club can contact Joe on 085 7665838.
