Death

The death has occurred of Judy Britten (nee Dooley) of Oxford, Buckinghamshire, England. She had reached the good age of 90 years and was the last of her generation of the Dooleys of New York (Lower Grennan). Judy is mourned by her husband Alf, sons Liam and Paul, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends to all of whom sympathy is extended. Her funeral takes place in England this week.

Ladywell

A large congregation attended the closing of the pilgrimage season and novena at Ladywell holy well and shrine last Saturday evening. Mass was celebrated by Very Reverend T. Murphy PP and the speaker was Derek Dooley. Fr Murphy thanked the people for their attendance at this year’s devotions and all those who helped to make it the huge success it was including the committee who maintain the grounds to such a high standard, the speakers who spoke each night, Tommy Ferns who provided the sound system, Aidan Kennedy who recited the rosary in public, Laura Kelly, organist and her choir and the Ballyroan Brass Band.

Roadworks

The resurfacing work (tarring) of the New York lane has now been completed to the benefit of its residents and the famers who use it. It is also an advantage to the many walkers who take their exercise on this safe and peaceful roadway. Continuing on roads, the famous pothole at Closhawn and its companions on the Grennan Road have now been filled. Many thanks to the officials who attended to this matter. It is hoped that a complete upgrading of this road will be undertaken in the non too distant future.
