Death

The death has taken place (in Bedford, England) of Paddy Kennedy formerly of Bawnraheen, Attanagh. Paddy commenced his education in Ballyouskill National School and then the Mill Hill College, Freshford after which he attended UCD. At the age of twenty one he emigrated to Zimbabwe (formerly known as Rhodesia) where he spent eight years working as a teacher and social worker. Paddy then headed for Bedford, England where in 1976 he met and married his wife Margaret. He continued his work there with disadvantaged children and made a lasting impression on all who encountered him. Paddy regularly returned to home to Ballyouskill where he would spend a lot of time on his plot beside his brother Martin’s house. His pastimes also included nature studies, reading and poetry and had many of his poems published, one of which called “Ballyouskill was read by his niece at his funeral. Paddy was waked at his brother John’s residence in Earlsgarden. Removal took place to Ballyouskill church on Tuesday evening (February 26) with requiem mass the following day after which burial took place in the adjouning cemetery. Paddy is mourned by his wife Margaret, sons Cillian and Nicholas, grandchildren, brothers John, Martin, sisters-in-law, nephew, nieces and many friends all of whom sympathy is extended.

25 Progressive Card Games

There were seven tables at last Friday night’s (February 22) 25 Progressive Card Games in Ballyouskill Hall. The winners were Anita Foley and Jimmy Mahony (10 games); Paddy Walsh and Tony Walsh (10 games).

Ballyouskill Church

On Sunday morning last (24th February) Very Reverend Tom Murphy PP conducted a blessing of all the graves in Ballyouskill Cemetery as part of the ceremonies for the Year of Faith. Cold but bright and dry conditions brought out a good attendance for the outdoor service.
