THE LATE PATRICK CONROY RIP

Sympathy is extended to Mrs Mary O’Donnell, Derrin, Borris in Ossory on the death of her brother, the late Mr Patrick (Paddy) Conroy, Brittas, Clonaslee, Co Laois. His death took place on Saturday May 26 and his remains reposed at his residence until removal on Sunday evening to St Manman’s Church, Clonaslee. Following funeral mass on Monday, burial took place afterwards in the New Cemetery, Clonaslee.

The late Paddy, who was predeceased by his wife Annie is deeply regretted by his sons Seamus and Michael, daughters Bernadette, Marie, Anne, Martina, Rose, Breda and Evelyn, his 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, sisters, brother, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was uncle to Mrs Breeda Hally and Mrs Sadie Rigney, Ballaghmore, Borris in Ossory, to whom sympathy is also extended.

CLUB GEAR

Borris in Ossory/Kilcotton GAA Club now have club jerseys and hoodies on sale. They are on display in the Esso petrol station at present and can be ordered from the club secretary Teresa Whelan at 087 2259397.

ICA WEEKEND AWAY

Names are still being taken for Borris in Ossory ICA guild’s weekend away to Belfast. This year the dates are Sunday July 29 to Wednesday August 1 and the trip will include a visit to the Titanic Exhibition and the sights of Belfast. There will also be a day spent touring the Antrim coast and a visit to the city of Armagh. Names and deposits of €100 should be given to Lily Sheeran (0505 41308) as soon as possible.

CEMETERY MASSES

The first of this year’s cemetery masses in the parish will take place in the New Cemetery, Borris in Ossory on Thursday June 7 at 7.30pm. The dates for the remaining cemetery masses are Knockaroo Cemetery, Thursday June 14 at 7.30pm, Killasmeestia Cemetery, Thursday June 21 at 7.30pm and Skeirke Cemetery, Thursday June 28 at 7.30pm.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS

Mental Health Ireland, in conjunction with Laois Partnership, is running a one day work shop for community leaders and community workers. The aim of the workshop is to train community activists to impart knowledge to community groups on mental health related issues. The training is free of charge.

The course will take place on Monday June 11 in the Respond Community Centre, Mill Court, Green Lane, Portlaoise from 10am to 4pm and the facilitators will be Finola Colgan and Linda Thorpe, development officers with Mental Health Ireland.
