PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK

A reminder to all those travelling on the annual parish pilgrimage to Knock Shrine on this Thursday August 30 of the following pick up points – Green Roads at 8am, Knockaroo at 8.15am and Borris in Ossory at 8.30am. LATE AIDAN KELLY RIP

The entire locality was shocked and saddened by the unexpected death of Mr Aidan Kelly, Mountain View, Borris in Ossory. His death took place on Tuesday August 21 at Tullamore Regional Hospital. His remains reposed at his residence until removal to St. Canices Church, Borris in Ossory on Thursday evening August 23. Following Con- celebrated Requiem Mass on Friday; burial took place afterwards in the new cemetery, Borris in Ossory. The late Aidan is deeply regretted by his wife Pat, sons Joe, Ronan And Enda, daughters Michelle (O’Connell), Zita (Walker) and Emer (Coleman), brothers John and Richard, sister Mary, sons-in-law, grandchildren, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. Aidan ran a very successful business in the village, Kelly Machine Spares and had a great interest in all sports, especially GAA and rugby. He was one of the most loyal supporters of the local Hurling club and attended all the club’s games in all grades. He made many friends through his business and his sporting interests and the huge crowds which attended his funeral on both days were testament to his popularity. A guard of honour was formed at his funeral by members of the Fine Gael party. May he rest in peace.

PLAYGROUND/DEVELOPMENT

An envelope collection in aid of the development of a Playground in the village is currently taking place. The cost of the Playground will be approx €85,000 (incl VAT). It is hoped that most of the cost will be grant aided but there will have to be some local contribution.

Committee members are delighted with the response to the collection so far and wish to thank all who have donated. They are well aware that due to the present economic situation some people are unable to make a donation. Those who still wish to contribute can do so by contacting either of the treasurers Canice Sheeran or Jack Fahey.

PROGRESSIVE 25 DRIVE

The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows 1st Joe Dooley and Jacob Fairbrother, 2nd - Marie Quinn and Murt Ryan, Neil Maher and Anna Costigan, Billy Kirby and Tom Moore, 3rd Peggy Bergin and Sadie Delaney, Paddy Sheeran and John Mooney, 10th game – Joe Cass and Mary Kelly, 20th game – Tony O’Sullivan and Nuala Breslin. Raffle winners were - Jack Maher, P.J.Holohan and Joe Dooley. The Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm. The club and card players wish to extend deepest sympathy to the Kelly family, Borris in Ossory on the death of the late Aidan Kelly.

ICA

Borris in Ossory ICA Guild will resume its activities after the summer break when it holds the first meeting of the season in St Canice’s Hall on next Wednesday September 5 at 8pm. All members are requested to attend.

The guild will host the Laois Federation meeting in St Joseph’s National School, Borris in Ossory on Tuesday September 18 at 8 pm.
