LATE WILLIAM GUILFOYLE

The death took place at his residence on Wednesday September 17 of William Guilfoyle, Ballaghmore, Borris in Ossory. His remains reposed at his residence until removal to Ballaghmore Church on Thursday, September 18.

Following requiem mass on Friday burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.

The late Billy, who had been ill for some time is deeply regretted by his wife Maura, sons Tom and Dan, daughters in law, grandchildren, brother, sister, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, mother in law, relatives and friends.

Youth Club

The Borris in Ossory Youth Club will re-open on Friday, October 12 in the PE hall at St Joseph’s NS in Borris-in-Ossory, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Activites on the night include a Boot Camp with Diarmuid Quinlan. Please bring runners and tracksuits. Annual registration fee of €10 is now due, and the the club is open to all born before 1/1/2000. New members are most welcome.

CHIROPODIST

The Chiropodist will be in attendance in Borris in Ossory on Thursday, October 11. For appointment please phone 087-2071267.

SENIOR CITIZENS DANCING

Afternoon dancing for Senior citizens with Maureen Culliton will commence on this Thursday, October 11 in St Canice’s Parish Hall, Borris in Ossory and will continue each Thursday from 2pm to 4pm. All are welcome.

COUNTRY MARKETS

Country Markets have started up in Borris in Ossory. The first Country Market took place in St Canice’s Hall on Saturday, October 6 and continues each Saturday morning from 10am to 1pm. All are welcome.

GARDENING

The next meeting of the gardening group will be on this Thursday night October 11 at 8.30 in St Canice’s Hall.

The group will be learning to take rose cuttings along with lots of other interesting things so please come along and enjoy a great night out. It’s always fun and there is something new to be learned at every class.

PROGRESSIVE 25

The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows; 1st Seamus Byrne and Jack Maher, 2nd Mary Jo Ryan and Bridget Gleeson, Paddy Dunphy and Larry O’Mahony, Dan Tierney and Sean Gleeson, John and Catherine Dalton, Peggy Bergin and Sadie Delaney, Paddy Sheeran and John Mooney, 10th game Martin Delaney and Martin Walsh, 20th game PJ Holohan and Michael Muldowney. Raffle winners were Catherine Dalton, Jacob Fairbrother, Nuala Breslin and Dan Tierney.

The Progressive 25 Drive will continue on Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall, starting at 9pm and this will be the monthly €10 game.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

The dates for First Confession and First Holy Communion in the parish next year have been announced and are as follows; First Confession in Borris in Ossory on Wednesday, March 6; First Confession in Killasmeestia on Thursday, March 7; First Holy Communion in Borris in Ossory on Saturday, May 11; First Confession in Borris in Ossory on Saturday, May 4.

ADORATION

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place each Tuesday in St Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory from 10am to 3pm. Adoration takes place in Killasmeestia Church on Thursdays from 9.30am to 3pm and in Knockaroo Church on Tuesdays between 2pm and 4pm. Anyone is welcome to come along and spend some time in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.

HALLOWEEN FLOWER NIGHT

A Halloween Flower Demonstration will take place in the Parochial Hall, Rathdowney on Thursday, October 25. The Flower Demonstration will be given by Oliver and Martin Lawlor, Durrow and will be in aid of Erkina House and Rathdowney Meals on Wheels. It will commence at 8pm and tickets cost €7.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to Mrs Elizabeth Treacy, Doon, Ballybrophy on the death of her mother, the late Mrs Mary Kate Mahon of Moylena, Tullamore and late of Canal Line, Pullough, Offaly.

Her remains were removed from the residence of her daughter, Catherine, 29 Moylena, Clara Road, Tullamore on Thursday evening September 27 to the Church of the Assumption, Tullamore. Following requiem mass on Friday morning, interment took place in Boher cemetery.
