Borris in Ossory/Kilcotton GAA Club would sincerely like to thank all those who participated in the recent club forum in Killasmeestia Hall. The feedback gathered at this event will be used to help compile a five year plan for the club which will be launched later in the year. The plan will encompass key elements of how the club is run in areas such as games and coaching, fundraising, development, PR and culture and club administration. St. Joseph’s N.S.,Borris in Ossory will be taking enrolments for September 2013 on the week of February 18 to 22. Parents who wish to enrol their child for September may collect forms from the school or ring 0505 41331
A meeting in connection with the proposed Childrens Playground in Borris in Ossory will be held on next Thursday evening February 7 in the FAS office, Church car park at 8pm. All committee members are requested to please attend this meeting.
Borris in Ossory ICA guild meeting will take place on this Wednesday night February 6 in St Canice’s Hall at 8pm. Members are requested to bring items for the Easter hamper to the meeting.
Spring is in the air. It does not feel like it but now is the time to be planning the garden for the coming season. What better way than to come along to the Gardening group in St Canices Hall on Thursday February 14 at 8pm. A very special thank you to Mary Hilliard, Joanna Fitzpatrick and of course Fergal for the wonderful demonstrations at the December meeting. Ticket for the Borris-in-Ossory and Rushall Coursing Club’s annual draw are on sale from all Committee members. The draw takes place on Saturday night February 9 in the Green Roads at 10am. Tickets are just €2 each with a top prize of €400. BRIDGE CLUB
The results of the Bridge competition held on January 8 were as follows 1st Irene Delaney and Teresa Butler, 2nd Josephine Campion and Margaret Scott, 3rd Nuala Costello and Kathleen Phelan. Results of the Competition held on January 15th were 1st Marie and Agnes Geoghegan, 2nd Ann Kruse and Enda Fitzpatrick, 3rdTeresa Butler and Irene Delaney. A new member Kate Connaire was welcomed to the Club. Winners of the Competition held on January 22nd were 1st Marie and Agnes Geoghegan, 2nd Margaret Scott and Noreen Fitzgerald, 3rd Rosario Cullinane and Noreen Hanrahan.
BORRIS-IN-OSSORY YOUTH CLUB
Borris-In-Ossory Youth Club continues to meet each Friday evening in St Canice’s Hall, or St Joseph’s National School PE Hall Borris-In-Ossory from 7-30 to 9-30 with a range of activities available. New members are most welcome to join. With the membership increasing weekly it is essential that more volunteer leaders are recruited to help out on Friday evenings. Volunteer Training courses are scheduled to take place on Saturday March 2 and Saturday March 9. SENIOR CITIZENS DANCING
Afternoon dancing for Senior citizens with Maureen Culliton takes place each Thursday in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory from 2pm to 4pm. All are welcome.
Following a spate of vandalism in the Borris in Ossory parish area, surveillance cameras have recorded personnel and vehicles used by these vandals. It is ongoing throughout the Borris in Ossory and Ballybrophy areas. The evidence will be passed on to the relevant authorities.
PROGRESSIVE 25 DRIVE
The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows 1st Tom Quigley and Tim Tierney, 2nd - P.J.Holohan and Michael Muldowney, 3rd Dan Tierney and Sean Gleeson, Paddy Dunphy and Larry O’Mahony, Leo Kelleher and Jim Walsh, 10th game – John and Catherine Dalton , 20th game – Peggy Bergin and Sadie Delaney. The Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm.
MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS GAME
The annual 25 card game in aid of Multiple Sclerosis will take place on Thursday night March 7 in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm. This worthy cause can be supported by buying a ticket, giving a donation or sponsoring a raffle prize on the night. Tickets at €10 will be on sale for this event. The Joseph Thompson Memorial Billiards Tournament is about to commence. This annual tournament commemorates the late Joseph Thompson, Borris in Ossory, who was a well-known billiard player. Each year it attracts top class competitors from all over Ireland The Cavanagh Cup Billiards competition is also in full swing at the moment with some great games from top billiard players in the club
Membership Fees for the club are now long overdue and should be paid as soon as possible. It should be noted that only paid up members will be allowed into the hall. The fee for adults is €20 and for students and under 14’s it is €10.
