SCHOOL ENROLMENT

St. Joseph’s N.S.,Borris in Ossory will be taking enrolments for September 2013 on the week of February 18 to 22.

Parents who wish to enrol their child for September may collect forms from the school or ring 0505 41331

ICA

Borris in Ossory ICA guild meeting took place on Wednesday, February 6 in St Canice’s Hall, presided over by Helen Kavanagh. A vote of sympathy was passed with Florrie Foley on the recent deaths of her two sisters in England. Congratulations were extended to Mai Clare on the birth of her grandson. Betty O’Brien was formally welcomed as a new member and Betty Phelan was welcomed back to the guild. Arrangements were made for the guild to be represented at the Table Quiz in Spink on Wednesday February 27. Members were also informed about upcoming events including the Irish night in the Gandon Inn on Friday, March 15, the Federation dinner also in the Gandon Inn on Friday, April 12, the Art/Craft Day in Castletown on Saturday, April 20 and the Federation AGM in Camross on Wednesday, April 24.

Several members hope to travel to An Grianan for Laois Week which takes place in June. The guild’s Easter raffle will take place on Wednesday March 27 and tickets for same were issued to all the members.

The guild’s annual weekend away will take place in July and South Wales has been suggested as a venue for this year’s trip. Dates and further information on this trip will be available when all the details have been finalised.

The competition for the best pot of homemade marmalade was won by Lily Sheeran, 2nd Kitty Foyle and 3rd Stella Kealy. The raffle winners were Stella Kealy, Teresa Lalor and Helen Kavanagh.

When the business of the meeting was completed, members divided into teams of four and enjoyed a beetle drive novelty game, organised by Florrie Foley.

The next meeting of the guild will take place on Wednesday, March 6 at 8pm.

GARDENING

Now is the time to be planning the garden for the coming season. What better way than to come along to the Gardening group in St Canices Hall on Thursday, February 14 at 8pm. A very special thank you to Mary Hilliard, Joanna Fitzpatrick and of course Fergal for the wonderful demonstrations at the December meeting.

CYCLING CLUB

Borris in Ossory Charity Cyclists will hold a meeting in St Canice’s Hall on Friday February 15 at 9pm to discuss plans for a follow up on last year’s successful first year. This meeting is open to anyone with new ideas or anyone who may be interested in cycling.

COUNTRY MARKETS

Borris-In-Ossory Country Markets takes place each Saturday in St Canice’s Hall from 10.30am to 1.30pm, with a wide variety of produce, home baking, jam, vegetables etc.

SOCIAL IN KILLASMEESTIA

A Social will take place in Killasmeestia Community Centre on this Friday night February 15 with music by Brian McDermott. Dancing will be from 9.30pm to 12.30am and supper will be served.

BORRIS-IN-OSSORY YOUTH CLUB

Borris-In-Ossory Youth Club continues to meet each Friday evening in St Canice’s Hall, or St Joseph’s National School PE Hall Borris-In-Ossory from 7.30pm to 9.30pm with a range of activities available. New members are most welcome to join. It is essential that more volunteer leaders are recruited to help out on Friday evenings. Volunteer Training courses are scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 2 and Saturday, March 9. SET DANCING

Set dancing classes for beginners will take place in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory on Monday nights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, starting on Monday, February 11. Anyone interested in the Set dancing classes please contact Eileen Daly at 087-6699412 (after 3pm).

SENIOR CITIZENS DANCING

Afternoon dancing for Senior citizens with Maureen Culliton takes place each Thursday in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory from 2pm to 4pm. All are welcome.

COMMUNITY AWARE

Following a spate of vandalism in the Borris in Ossory parish area, surveillance cameras have recorded personnel and vehicles used by these vandals. It is ongoing throughout the Borris in Ossory and Ballybrophy areas. The evidence will be passed on to the relevant authorities.

PROGRESSIVE 25 DRIVE

The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows 1st Peggy Bergin and Sadie Delaney, Johnny Butler and Seamus O’Grady, P.J.Holohan and Michael Muldowney,

2nd - Seamus Byrne and Sean Finan, Billy Maher and Tony O’Sullivan, Dan Tierney and Marie Quinn, 10th game – Michael Murphy and Jack Maher, 20th game – Paddy Sheeran and John Delaney.

The Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm.

THREE THREES FINAL

The final of the three threes game is about to take place and the following are the players who have reached the final - Mary Kelly, Michael Fitzpatrick, Nuala Breslin, Anita Duggan, P.J.Holohan, Sean Bourke and Jacob Fairbrother. All finalists are wished the best of luck.

MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS GAME

The annual 25 card game in aid of Multiple Sclerosis will take place on Thursday night March 7 in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm. This worthy cause can be supported by buying a ticket, giving a donation or sponsoring a raffle prize on the night. Tickets at €10 will be on sale for this event.
