Christmas fair in Abbeyleix

Enjoying last year's Christmas market in Abbeyleix.

Enjoying last year's Christmas market in Abbeyleix.

THIS weekend the streets of Abbeyleix will be lighting up as the town gets into the festive spirit with their second annual Christmas Market and Craft Fair. Held in the town’s square from 5pm to 8pm, the fair will host crafts, foods, and festive fayres from Laois and beyond.

There will be at least 30 stalls set up for the event, including lots of crafts, arts, foods, teas, coffees, and Christmassy treats.

There will be a great variety of stalls with plenty to suit everyone’s tastes.

As well as plenty to buy, people can also get into the festive spirit as Santa Claus will be in the town to hear whether all the boys and girls have been good. The Christmas lights will be switched on at 5pm by Abbeyleix Lions Club. Described as a great way to get into the Christmas spirit, the Christmas Fair will also be playing host to three choirs, including the parish choir, Scoil Mhuire NS childrens’ choir and South School NS childrens’ choir.

There will also be a window display trail and all businesses are encouraged to take part, to help make turn the town into a festive wonderland. Last year’s fair was the first ever and was a great success with over 30 stalls taking part. Described as a great afternoon out for all the family, this is a good oportunity to shop local and support local businesses, artists, and craftspeople.

ABC will also be raffling a hamper and there will be a live crib on the day as well.

Anybody with late stall queries can email christmasfair@abbeyleix.ie or contact Cian at 086 739 8519.
