The parish lotto with a jackpot of €6,200 was not won, small winners were €30 Sophie McCabe, €25 Martin Fennelly and €20 Mick Gaughan. The lotto of St Patrick’s Weekend will be in the Peadar’s Bar on Tuesday March 19 with a possible jackpot of €6,350. Tickets must be handed in before 9.30pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot.
The first competition of the Trout season will be held on St Patrick’s Day, March 17. It will be for the Michael Walsh Cup. There will also be a trout fishing competition for the Wm B Lawlor Memorial Cup on March 28. Usual rules apply, entries taken at Lawlor’s Flower shop from 9.30am on the morning of the competition. All members will receive a text with all details of both competitions. Well done to Tommy Coffey who qualified for the All-Ireland Pike Fishing Championship last Sunday. Tommy will now compete against all other qualifiers in a final fish off later in the season. The club will, in conjunction with the Woodenbridge Paddlers, be holding a number of family days on the river. More details will be announced later but last year this family day proved to be very successful and both clubs look forward to having many family days during the summer season. Memberships are on sale in Lawlor’s Gala, The Square, Durrow, Lawlor’s Florists, Bridge Gardens, Durrow, and from Secretary Michael Walsh.

Laois Cycling and Touring Club invite you to come and join us on our weekly beginners cycle. We start at the Maldron Hotel on Abbeyleix Road, Portlaois at 8.50 for a 9 am start. St Patrick’s Day
The St. Patrick’s Day festival will get under way on Saturday March 16 with a children disco in the Community Hall, Durrow. u-12 Admission is €3. There will be an Outdoor Country Market in the Square from 11am to 5pm on St Patrick’s Day. The parade of Motorised or non Motorised vehicles will assemble on Cork Road from 2.30pm with the parade starting at 3pm. Following the parade there will be an exhibition hurling game between junior infants and senior infants of the Harps GAA club. There will be face painting, bouncing castles and loads more. Leprechauns are wanted badly for the day, anyone interested contact Marian Mahony.
Durrow Civil Defence Unit are currently accepting applications for membership. The unit trains in first aid, rescue and firefighting and provides a wide range of services to the community in emergency situations and at public events. For more information please contact Seamus Clancy on 086-3491317.
Deputy Brian Stanley, Sinn Fein will host a meeting for the south Laois Electoral Area in Rathdowney Community Centre on Thursday March 14 at 8pm. This is an information and campaign meeting on the implications for the Homeowner/Householder of the Property/Home Tax. Also discussed will be the alternative to this unjust tax on the family home. With Durrow Parish in this electorial area everyone who is interested in an alternative to this unjust tax are invited to come along to this meeting. All are welcome.
Durrow Development Forum are delighted to assist Mary Ryan in organising a fundraising event for the Irish Cancer Society. As well as selling Daffodil’s on March 22, a coffee morning/evening and a cake sale will take place after mass on Saturday March 23 and Sunday March 24 in the Presentation Center. The Harps Juvenile Club are holding a children’s disco in Cullohill Community Center on Friday March 15 at 7pm. A presentation will be made to all the boys who took part in the nursery programme. Admission is €2, all welcome. On St Patrick’s Day the club will host a exhibition hurling game between the youngest members of the club in the Green after the parade. We appeal to Parents and family members to come along and support these budding stars. Tickets will shortly be on sale for the Annual Monster Chocolate Easter Egg. This year it’s a Lily O’Brien Chocolate hamper plus a Harps GAA kit. Tickets are only two euro and the draw will take place on Easter Sunday night. Your support would be greatly appericiated.
Couch to 5k
This programme has been designed to get just about anyone from the couch to jogging 5km or thirty minutes in nine weeks. Our Lady’s Meadow
Our Lady’s Meadow Primary School board of management, parents council, fundraising committee wish to sincerely thank everyone who supported and participated in the fashion show on Friday night. It was a fantastic night of fashion and fun and a great start to the fundraising effort. This year for the Flora Ladies Mini Marathon the Durrow Walkers have volunteered to participate on behalf of Our Lady’s Meadow. Their collective sponsorship will directly go to the school building funds.
