Durrow to bloom in yellow
HOpes are high that Durrow will turn yellow next week for Daffodil Day.
People form Durrow and and s surrounding areas are eagerly awaiting the blossoming of the 40,000 daffodil bulbs planted late last year. Preparations are also underway to hold a fundraising event in conjunction with Daffodil Day which takes place on Friday March 22. The day is the national fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society.
Marian Mahony, secretary of the Durrow Development Forum said that it was a very important cause.
“Durrow Development Forum are delighted to assist Mary Ryan with the organising of a fundraising event for this hugely important cause. I doubt there is a family in Ireland who hasn’t been touched in some way by cancer and the Irish Cancer Society is an outstanding charity”.
As well as selling daffodils on March 22, a coffee morning / evening and cake sale will take place after mass in Presentation Centre, Durrow on Saturday March 23 and Sunday March 24.
“Your support would be very much appreciated, whether you can give an hour or two to help with the fundraising effort, can bake a cake, or will just call in for a cuppa and a bun, we will be delighted to welcome you”, added Marian.

Late last year Durrow Development Forum, assisted by an army of local volunteers, planted over 320m of beech hedging and a staggering 40,000 daffodil bulbs over an area of 1km on approach roads to the town. Last year was the second year of the planting project which now covers the Abbeyleix, Cork and the Ballyraggett roads.
