The retirement function of Portlaoise INTO branch was held on Thursday 21st of February in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise.

Honoured on the night were five retiring teachers, all of whom have given long and distinguished service to education in Laois and beyond.

They were: Mr. Ted Laffey, retiring principal of Scoil Bhríde Knockmay; Ms. Mary Noonan retiring principal of St. Joseph’s Girls School, Mountmellick; Mrs Anne Lowry, who retired from St. Coleman’s N.S Stradbally after a career which included both work in the classroom and in the local community as a Home School Liason Officer; Mrs Gertrude O’Gorman and Mr. Joe Farrell, both of whom retired recently from St. Francis School, Portlaoise, having spent a considerable number of years dedicating their work to the education children with special educational needs.

The evening was attended by a large number of friends, relatives and colleagues, all of whom wished each of the retirees a happy retirement.
