Historic night for Ballinakill authors

Co-authors Christy O’Shea and Ger Dunphy have compiled their second book on the history of Ballinakill .

With the assistance of Ballinakill Historical Society the present book – Ballinakill- Celebrating 400 years as a charter town 1612-2012 – will be launched by PP Fr. Sean Conlon in the Old School Community Hall in Ballinakill on Friday November 16th at 8.00 pm .

This book commemorates the granting of a charter to the town in 1612 by James 1st of England .

The book will have many photographs of Ballinakill people past and present who have walked the streets of the charter town .

There will chapters on the history of people and buildings on each street written by residents who have lived here and witnessed the changes over time , a chapter on Ballinakill people who have made their mark on the world , a brief history on the background to the granting of the chapter , a chapter written by nearly 50 national school students who give a short history of themselves and also displaying the fact that the art of handwriting is alive and well. .

There is also a chapter written by Fr. Michael Casey reflecting on the Salesian presence in Ballinakill

There are also articles written by descendants of Ballinakill people who trace their roots to Ballinakill but who are now scattered all over the globe .

However the main emphasis on the commemorative book will be on Ballinakill people and the book will serve as a pictorial archive for the next generation . .
