Laois cleans up in litter challenge

THE first round of the Inter Community Litter Challenge has just been completed and a number of towns and villages throughout Laois have now progressed to the second round.

In the large town category, Borris-in-Ossory, Abbeyleix and Durrow all go to head to head in the next round, having been awarded 96 points each by the judges. Portarlington and Mountrath both scored 93, while Stradbally received 88.

In the large village category, Ballacolla (97 marks) will face Timahoe (98), while Castletown will face Clonaslee on an impressive 100 marks each. In the same category, Ballyroan and Ballylinan scored 95 and Erril scored 93.

Finally, in the small village category, Clough faces off against Spink, Killasmeestia faces Luggacurren, and Ratheniska versus Shanahoe. All villages received a top score of 100. In the same category, Killenard and Attenagh scored 98, while Emo got 95.

The second round of judging will continue until this Friday, July 20, which means there’s still time for people to get their towns and villages in shipship form for the judges. Round three will run from July 23 to August 3 and the fourth and final round of judging takes place from August 6 to August 17.
