At an inquest held in Abbeyleix Hospital on Tuesday evening, the jury returned a verdict in accordance with medical evidence on Mrs Kate Sheeran, 73, a widow, who resided at Whitecastle, Durrow.

She was found by her son after a fire occurred at her home on Monday night. The outbreak is believed to have come about as a result of an electrical fault. The verdict was that death was due to suffocation. The deceased is also survived by three daughters.
Call to farmers
Never mind where the Government will get the money. When they want the rates they won’d ask you where you get it. The Government can find money for subsidies somehow. Pig deaths
Bad management and housing were the reasons given by the CAO (Mr P. Kavanagh) for the high mortality rate of young pigs. At Monday’s meeting of Laois Agricultural Committee, the Acting Chairman (Mr J Martin) said it was not alone in Laois, but in other counties as well. It was surprising that people knew so little of the matter. Mr Kavanagh: “Where there is good management and housing the death rate is low.”
Panto
First night nerves subdued, the Irish Worsted Mills’ Choral and Dramatic Society blossomed out in its usual form, in the presentatin of their panto “Humpty Dumpty” on Sunday last. With a cast of thirty, the production of this adaptable theme left little, if anything, to be desired.
Marriage
Maguire-Quinn. The marriage, with Nuptial Mass and Papal blessing, took place in St. Mary’s Church, Lucan, Co. Dublin, on Wednesday week of Miss Esther A. Quinn, daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. Joseph Quinn, Old Borris, Castletown, and Mr. Andrew Maguire, son of Mr. and Mrs P. Maguire, Carntyne, Glasgow.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. O’Shea, C.C., Castletown, assisted by Rev. Fr. Ward, C.C., Dublin, cousin of the bride. She was given away by her brother, Mr. Thomas Quinn. Miss Ann Quinn, S.R.N., sister of the bride, was bridesmaid.
