Storytelling Festival
The 10th anniversary Slieve Bloom Storytelling Festival takes place this week and the storytellers will be visiting the local schools in the area on Thursday and Friday. A special performance by the storytellers will take place at Roundwood House on this Thursday, 11 October at 8pm. Admission €12.00. All welcome
CAMERA CLUB
Anyone interested in forming a camera club is invited to an open meeting on Wednesday, October 24 at 8pm in Phelan’s Restaurant Mountrath.

LAOIS HEART SUPPORT GROUP
The Mountrath branch of the Laois Heart Support group will hold their AGM in St Fintan’s Hall Mountrath on Wednesday October 17. All members new and old are welcome.
ACTIVITY CENTRE MEETING
Raymond Carroll and Clare Brooks are holding a meeting on Tuesday, October 9 from 8pm at St Fintan’s Hall Mountrath on their plans to develop a Rural Activity Centre for children. The Centre will incldued indoor activity rooms and a large outdoor activity area. Off-site outdoor pursuits such as Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Trekking and Bouldering will be facilitated using the rural setting of the Slieve Blooms which is in close proximity to the Centre. The Centre opening hours will be 8am to 6pm. It will provide employment for 8 to 10 people. It is good to see the above development coming into our community. The Brooks say the Old Tennis Court beside, their property on the Castletown Rd, could be used in some way to facilitate the development of the centre and, as such, have expressed an interest in purchasing that area. This is a matter for the people of Mountrath.
OSSORY CYCLE CLUB
The first AGM of Ossory Cycling Club takes place on Thursday, October 18 in O,Reilleys lounge Rathdowney at 8.30pm. Existing and new members are welcome.
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Mountrath Christmas Lights Committee would like to thank the community for their contribution to their bucket collection last weekend. All funds raised will go towards further enhancing the town this festive season. A special word of thanks to all collectors, who gave so generously of their time. Your support was greatly appreciated. The committee would gladly welcome new members. Knitting Club: The knitting club continues to meet every Friday morning 10:30-12:30pm all welcome. Ms Readathon Application forms for the national MS Readathon, which gets underway in October, are now available in the Library.

WEEKLY CLEANUP
Various members and volunteers of Mountrath Tidy Towns committee, which is a sub-committee of Mountrath Development Association, will be meeting every Thursday evening at the Car Park on Main Street at 7:00pm - weather permitting, for a quick tidy up of the town. This usually involves picking up litter and keeping an eye on areas which might need a more thorough cleanup by our local Fás scheme participants. All are welcome to come along for the odd half hour or so from 7-8pm.
OUTDOOR GYM
The outdoor gym in the local amenity park can be used by all ages. We would encourage all local clubs and groups to use this facility.
