MOUNTRATH Community School student Molly Donnery has reached the finals of the All Ireland Schools Talent Search and travelled to the Helix in Dublin on Saturday March 9 to compete for the top prize.

The All Ireland Schools Talent Search has been running since last October with 3,500 competitors entering from secondary schools in all 32 counties. Mountrath had more acts reach the semi finals over the past few weeks, a great record for the school which is not only famed for its sporting successes but now for its musical successes as well.

The other acts included Celtic Mix (an Irish dance troupe made up of Conor, Katie and Dillon Kilmartin with Jean and Ciara Kennedy), Amy O Reilly and Melissa Bergin.

Molly was successful at the regional heat in Mullingar recently when she sang ‘The Writer’, made famous by Ellie Goulding.

She also played the traditional Irish harp in this piece. Amy O’ Reilly sang ‘Inside You are Beautiful’, made famous by Emill Sande and Labrinth, and Melissa Bergin sang ‘If I were a boy’, made famous by Beyonce.

The entire school community are very proud of all their acts who performed with great confidence and skill at the regional finals. Molly said that she was thrilled to reach the final.

“I absolutely love music and performing and this is the chance of a lifetime”, she enthused. There was a big contingent of fans from Mountrath heading up to Dublin last weekend to support Molly. Music teacher at the school is Aidan Feely.
