STUDENTS from Mountrath Community School recently went on a trip to the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland.

The third year group were studying an exploration of the way in which the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland has religious and cultural significance for the Islamic community in Ireland.

The third year group were introduced to the theology and philosophy behind the Islamic Cultural Centre by Doctor Ali Salim, an Imam at the Mosque. Then they were given a comprehensive guided tour of the centre including the Mosque, library, gallery of photos of the pilgrimages to Mecca and other Islamic shrines.

Finally Abithal Saud gave the students a preentation of the life of a Muslim around the world focusing on the Middle East and Iraq.

They were shown artifacts and examples of Arabic art, caligraphy and embroidery in a special exhibition at the centre, which the group found extremely interesting.

The entire day was a great success and the students learned to appreciate the amazing significance of the Islamic Cultural Centre in Ireland and its role in Interfaith dialogue in Ireland. They saw the similarities and differences between the Christian and Muslim traditions in Ireland.

Ross Holmes said that it was a great learning opportunity for the students. Laura Magee said that the exhibition of Islamic art and culture was very interesting. Keith Chambers said that it was a very enjoyable day, and the guides were very good.
