SUNDAY night, December 9, was a very special night for the pupils of Abbeyleix South National School as they performed their nativity play ‘C H R I S T M A S spells Christmas’ in St Michael and All Angels’ Church in Abbeyleix to a huge congregation which included family, friends and parishioners.

This performance was the culmination of weeks of rehearsing which began after the midterm break in October.

Every pupil from junior infants to sixth class played an active part in the production with narrators, innkeepers, cheerleaders, angels, shepherds, little wise men, newspaper boys and of course Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus and the Rock ’n’ Roll donkey.

Throughout the play the narrators told the Christmas story, which included nine lively songs, lots of action and dancing.

The Abbeyleix South National School pupils displayed a range of talents in areas from singing and dancing to narration. Pupils proved ideally suited to the parts they played in this production.

As always, the play proved popular amongst the parent body and community alike with St Michael and All Angels almost filling to capacity.

The night was clearly a huge success.

It will be evident that a great deal of hard work and effort was put into the play by pupils and teachers alike. This made the production a roaring success for all of the students and staff at the school, after months of hard work and rehersals.
