Port in line for Star prize
The Dirty old Towns committee in Portarlington have been nominated for the Aontas Star Awards 2013, by Marek Plewa, who worked as a volunteer on the Arlington House restoration project.
The awards recognise adult learning initiatives in each province and nationally.
Last year the Knockmay Women’s Voice Quilting Project were the Leinster winners.
This year’s five winners will be announced at the STAR Awards Ceremony in Dublin on February 25, the opening event of the Adult Learners’ Festival 2013.
DOT Committee member Ann Dunne says they were delighted to be nominated.
“We are very honoured that Marek enjoyed his time as a volunteer.
“Portarlington is a great community and we are fortunate to have people like Marek among us,” she said.
The committee are continuing in their work to improve the environs of Portarlington, following their successful role in RTE’s Dirty Old Towns programme last spring.
