It was with sadness that the town heard of the Death of Ger Muldowney, Wesport and formerly of Bog Road Portarlington. Condolences go out to his wife and children, his mam Theresa, brother, sisters and extended family and friends. Ger was predeceased by his father Liam a number of years ago. Requiem mass took place in St Mary’s Church Wesport on Wednesday September 12, with burial after in Aughavale Cemetery. May Ger rest in peace.
It was with great sadness that word spread around town about the death of one of our older citizens. Kitty Lawlor who was in her 89th year was well known to everyone in the town, who remembers her from her lovely sweet shop on main Street, which she ran for many years. Kitty was the last of a family of 18 children born to William and Katie Lawlor. In the past few years Kitty was looked after by the staff of Oakdale Nursing Home. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, her sister in laws, and a very large extended family and friends. Requiem mass took place on Thursday September 13 in St Michael’s Church with burial after in St Michael’s Cemetery.

St Brigid’s Active Retirement Club
We have just returned from a wonderful four day break and tour of Kerry.
40 members and guests travelled by coach to and from the Castlerosse Hotel and Golf Resort in Killarney. We had dinner every night at 7 30 which was a five course meal and we followed that with bingo in a room supplied by the hotel for any one who wanted to play, also there was music every night in the ballroom with dancing and on our last night they had Irish traditional music in Mulligans Pub which is part of the hotel. We had two bus tours of Kerry, the first one took in the Ring of Kerry and we went across the bridge to Valentia Island and had lunch there. The second tour took us to The Skellig Experience Centre and that was so interesting with all the history of the Blasket islands and the Skellig Islands. Our tour guide Donal pointed out all the interesting places of note, like Inch Strand where the Film Ryans Daughter was filmed, Killorglin where there is a huge festival every year and of course Dingle. We had two stops in the beautiful town of Adare. The hotel gave us the same tour guide for all the trips and he was a patient man. We would like to thank all our committee for making the tour so enjoyable and our wonderful members and guests.
