Resounding thumbs up for Errill’s heritage trail plan
A proposal for the development of a heritage trail by the Errill Tidy Towns committee has received a resounding thumbs up.
Their Tidy Towns adjudication report states, “The three year plan submitted with your entry documentation refers to a proposal for a heritage trail, which is an excellent idea. In the view of the adjudicator, a heritage trail with information signs and plaques at each of the features of interest in the village would be a lovely addition to Errill.”
Noting that a wildlife survey is currently underway in the village, the adjudicator suggested, “There appears to be many opportunities for walks and nature trails in Errill. Have any walks been considered? Perhaps the possibility of providing a combined heritage and nature trail should be explored?”
The buildings in the centre of the village also come in for high praise. “They form an intact historical core and this adds to the distinctiveness of Errill. The standard of presentation of the commercial premises in the village was also good with Dowling’s, Allen’s and the Post Office drawing positive attention.”
Errill improved its marks awarded tally (going from 285 in 2011 to 289 this year) and the adjudicator is complimentary of the local daily litter patrols but adds that in relation to tidiness ‘some improvements are still possible’. Work is needed on signage cleaning and disappointment was expressed over the appearance of the pump. “It was observed to be badly in need of fresh paint and the landscaped bed in front of it was weedy and untidy looking.”
Concern was raised about the size of the wheely bin receptacles and how often they are emptied. “It is recommended that the suitability of the capacity of the bins is monitored because overflowing recycle bins can lead to an untidy appearance as people who wish to recycle have a tendancy to leave their bottles and cans adjacent to the receptables when they are too full.”
The provision of estate name signage for 2012 was praised but it was highlighted that road surfacing in some parts of the village could be improved.
The six-person ‘hard working and motivated committee’ is lauded for the high standards they’ve achieved.
