Roscrea raises Swaziland funds
A SPECIAL ecumenical service will be held in St Cronan’s Church of Ireland on Sunday November 25 at 7.30pm to raise funds for the Luyengo Farm Project in Swaziland.
Swaziland, a small landlocked country nestling between South Africa and Mozambique, has great poverty and the highest HIV infection rate in the world.
The Anglican Diocese has a detailed programme to help people affected by HIV, offering such things as places run by parish churches where children can come after school for fellowship and food, or teams of retired nurses who visit homes, bringing painkillers and vitamin supplements.
To ensure the continuation and development of these vital programmes, an ongoing income source is needed, and The Luyengo Farm Project aims to provide sustainable income to do exactly that.
The Anglican Diocese of Swaziland owns 220 acres of land, part of which has been turned into a farm, which will generate income for the HIV/AIDS programmes. As part of the Church of Ireland’s fundraising initiatives for this project, an ecumenical service will be held in St Cronan’s Church, Church Street, Roscrea on Sunday November 25 at 7.30pm.
The service will have a distinctly African flavour with the music being led by the choir of Foundation Ministries, Ennis, Co. Clare. Bishop Trevor Williams, Bishop of Limerick & Killaloe will be the guest speaker and will show a presentation on his recent fact-finding trip to Swaziland. The collection at this lively service will go towards the farm project. All are welcome. Donations to the fund can be forwarded to Rev. Lesley Robinson, The Rectory, Roscrea.
