December 22, 1962

Rathdowney. An exceptionally big number of salmon are reported to have gone up the local streams to spawn.

Poachers have been busy with their gaffs while the waters were low, but with the rivers now in full spate and fishery inspectors patrolling the various spawning grounds, it is hoped that the senseless slaughter will cease.

Not everybody is aware that the out-of-season fish can cause unpleasant skin disease.
