WEDDING BELLS

Wedding bells rang out in St Patrick’s Church, Wicklow on Friday, August 17, 2012 on the occasion of the marriage between Darragh McEvoy, son of Colman and Margaret McEvoy, Vicarstown Road, Stradbally and Tara Kelly, daughter of Helen and John Kelly, Wicklow town. The wedding ceremony was performed by Fr. Tim Hannon, cc, Wicklow assisted by Fr Sean Kelly, Stradbally and the soloists/music in the church was performed by Lindsey Aherne and Kieran Roche. The bestman was assisted by Daniel Dunne, Miche’al Burke and James Kelly and the pageboys were Luke Kelly and Fionn McEvoy-Mullally. Accompanying the bride were Claire Anderson, Aisling Kelly and Aideen McEvoy, while the flowergirls were Ella Kelly and Grace Kelly. The reception for 200 guests was held in the Amber Springs Hotel in Gorey and the happy couple spent their honeymoon in London.

STRADBALLY YOUTH CENTRE

A reminder that we haven’t gone away! We are re-opening on Thursday, September 6 from 7pm-9pm refreshed and with new hopes and ambitions for Youth. New members welcome from 6th class upwards. Existing members and new members will have to pick up a new enrolment form on opening night. Please note volunteers and help are desperately needed. FLOWER AND GARDEN CLUB

Stradbally Flower & Garden Club are holding their monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 5 in St. Joseph’s Hall at 8.p.m. and as this is the first meeting after the summer break they will expect a good attendance . Tea and a biscuit will be served.

NARROW GAUGE RAILWAY

The Irish Steam Preservation Society’s Narrow Gauge Railway will be up and running on October bank holiday Sunday and Monday, October 28 and 29.

PARISH GAELS FUNDRAISER

Stradbally Parish Gaels are holding a Social Night in the Napper Tandy, Stradbally on Saturday, Sepember 8 commencing at 9pm sharp. Food and music on the night. Admission is 5 euros and your support would be much appreciated.

VINTAGE RUN

Club Le Cheile are holding a Vintage Run on Sunday, September 16 commencing at 11am in Timahoe. Contact 086-1515325.

PARISH LOTTO

Numbers drawn were 6, 13, 21, 29. No jackpot winner. 1 matched 3 €200 David Cuddy. Next week’s jackpot will be €2,200. Tickets available from John Donohue, Paddy Ramsbottom. Seller receives 10% of jackpot winning ticket.

TEA DANCE

A Tea Dance in aid of St. Brigid’s Hospital, Shaen in aid of the Patients Comfort Fund will be held on Friday, August 31 in Portarlington Community Centre. Music by Nando and Shandy and dancing from 9.30pm-12.30pm and admission is €10. All support welcome.

CREDIT UNION

Portlaoise & Stradbally Credit Union will hold a Member Car Draw on Thursday 30th August at 12.00 in Mulhall`s Londis, Portlaoise (opposite the old post office). This month there are 2 cars to give away plus lots of spot prizes. Members who are part of the car draw are most welcome.

WORLD SUICIDE DAY

World Suicide Day will be held on Monday, September 10. The aim of this day is to promote better understanding and awareness of the issues involved in suicidal behaviour.

CONCERN

The organisers of the Church Gate collection held last weekend would like to take this opportunity in thanking all the collectors and people who donated to this very worthy cause.

ST COLMANS SCHOOL

Following the summer holidays, St. Colman’s School, Stradbally will re-opon on Wednesday, August 29.

LAOIS SFC

Following their first round defeat by Timahoe, Stradbally senior football bounced back and advanced to the next round of the SFC by defeating Crettyard at Pairc Ui Mhodha, Portlaoise on Thursday night last.

LATE MARGARET DALY

Deepest sympathy is offered to the extended family of Margaret Daly, nee Hickey, Boston and Snugboro ,thy, Co.Kildare. who died on August 17 and whose remains were interred in Oakvale Cemetery.

ELECTRIC PICNIC

Electric Picnic has established itself as a truly unique Irish festival, staged on the grounds of Stradbally Hall, Co Laois and thousands of revellers are expected to converge on the town for this major event. It takes place on this weekend Fri-Sun 31st Aug - 2nd Sept. Great music, art, theatre, comedy, pantomime, food and holistic health...and a little bit of magic.
