CONCERN

The proceeds of the recent church gate collection in Stradbally was €557.11, Timahoe €170.23 and Vicarstown €197.57. Many thanks to all the donors who contributed to this collection.

THE LATE LIAM HENNESSY

The death occurred peacefully at his home on September 3, of Liam Hennessy, (Ballymaddock, Stradbally). Liam is greatly missed by his loving wife Moyra, children Patsy, Mary,

Una, Joe, Genie, Annette, June and Billy, sisters Jo (McCann), Maureen (O’Connor), Eileen (Fitzpatrick), Pat (Corbett), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. His remains were removed from his home on Tuesday to the Church of the Assumption, The Heath, Portlaoise, and following requiem mass on Wednesday at 11am, his remains were interred in the adjoining cemetery.

CULTURE NIGHT

Music and spoken word performances in the library at 7pm. Laois Open Door Theatre will present a selection of drama and comedy intermixed with original music showcased and performed by The Laois Songwriters collective. The death occurred on September 7 of Winnie (Winnifred) Connors, 1, The Green, Stradbally. Deepest sympathy is extended to her husband Michael, sons, daughters and to her

extended family.

WHIST RESULTS

The following are the results of the whist drive held in St Patrick’s Hall, Stradbally on August 17. Top score Lorna Allen, 1st gent Michael O’Brien, 2nd gent Alice Finn, 1st lady Christine Brown, 2nd lady Theresa Grufferty, 1st half Sean Langton, 2nd half Eamon Owens, low score Lily Pearson, hatching Charlotte Glynn. MAURICE DEEGAN TO REFEREE 2012 ALL-IRELAND

HOSPICE COFFEE MORNING

Laois Hospice Coffee Morning will be held on Thursday, September 20 in St Patrick’s Hall, Stradbally from 9am to 1pm. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

STRADBALLY WOODLAND EXPRESS RAILWAY

The Irish Steam Preservation Society’s vintage diesel trains at Stradbally Railway will be up and running on Sunday, September 16 from 1pm to 4.30pm at Stradbally Hall. Experience a train ride behind our vintage Ruston and Hornsby diesel locomotive used at ESB Portarlington Power Station from 1952-1988 now preserved at Stradbally, Ireland’s oldest operational diesel locomotive ‘Nippy’ built in 1936 is also on display. Adults €6 and children €2.The Narrow Gauge Railway will be up and running on the October bank holiday Sunday and Monday, October 28 and 29.

CLUB LE CHEILE VINTAGE RUN

Club Le Cheile are holding a vintage run on Sunday, September 16 commencing at 11am in Timahoe. Contact 086 1515325.

MONDAY NIGHT PRAYER GROUP

The Monday night prayer group resumed on Monday night, September 3 in the Nun’s Chapel and continues every Monday night from 7.30pm.

SCOR NA NOG

The Laois Scor na nOg will be held on Saturday, November 3 in Timahoe Community Hall commencing at 5pm. This competition is open to all GAA members of 17 years or younger who can

dance, sing, sell a yarn, play an instrument, be part of a group or even want to test their general knowledge against neighbouring clubs. For all information on Scor contact 057 8660674 and a Scor committee member will get in touch.

YOUTH CENTRE

Stradbally Youth Centre re-opened last Thursday, September 6 from7pm to 9pm refreshed and with new hopes and ambitions for youth. New members welcome froom 6th class upwards.

Existing members and new members will have to pick up a new enrolment form. Please note volunteers and help are desperately needed. Contact the secretary 086 0766716 for more details.

OUGHAVAL ATHLETIC CLUB

Oughaval Athletic Club are holding a ‘beat the barge’ fun run on Saturday, September 22 commencing at 7pm. All welcome to join.
