We Banjo 3.

WE Banjo 3 will be heading to Birr this weekend when they perform in the Arts Centre there this Sunday February 24.

The award winning quartet WeBanjo3 from Galway, Ireland combine Irish Music with old time American and bluegrass influences to reveal the banjo’s rich legacy and roots.

When this band of brothers take flight in a wave of virtuosity, verve and joie-de-vivre, feet tap and pulses race. Enda and Fergal Scahill and Martin and David Howley are among the most celebrated and distinguished young musicians in Ireland today. Featuring banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, vocals and percussion We Banjo 3 make a bold and extraordinary musical statement.

Tickets priced at €16 are available now from the arts centre and the show starts at 8pm.

For cinema lovers, Birr Film Club will be showing Shadow Dancer on Tuesday February 26. Starring Clive Owen, Andrea Riseborough, Aidan Gillen, Domhnall Gleeson, Bríd Brennan and David Wilmot, the film tells the story of single mother Collette McVeigh, who is a Republican living in Belfast with her mother and hardliner IRA brothers.

When she is arrested for her part in an aborted IRA bomb plot in London, an MI5 officer (Mac) offers her a choice: lose everything and go to prison for 25 years or return to Belfast to spy on her own family. Her brother Gerry (Gillen) is the head of an IRA cell that is still carrying out assassinations in the Belfast area.
