Laois ladies raise funds for ENT Zambia Fund

LAOIS and Offaly Ladies who lunch became dames who dine at the plush Heritage hotel in Killenard last Friday night when they gathered at a lavish event in aid of the ENT Zambia Fund.

The Fashion Through the Decades gala organised by Gladys Adams was an evening with a difference. Over 250 people, mostly women with a few men, gathered to enjoy a dazzling display of vintage and contemporary fashions.

ENT surgeon Kieran O'Driscoll, founder of the ENT Zambia Fund, gave a brief and very graphic presentation on the problems encountered by the Fund. The proceedings then commenced with a wine reception which was generously supported by Elma and Noel Quinn from Daingean, and after a sumptuous meal models from the Celia Holman Lee agency took to the catwalk to showcase the marvellous fashions from Gladys Adams showroom in Tullamore.

MC Jim Smyth (from RTE's A Place in the Sun) kept the proceedings going at a great pace. Another RTE personality, Sonya Lennon of Off The Rails, opened the show with a rousing endorsement of the fashions on display.

Entertainment over the course of the evening included classical musical group 'Valdimir', pianist Pat Lee and vocalist Laura Mulligan.

The proceeds of the evening will go towards equipping a new mobile clinic in Zambia which has been funded by Gorta. The aid agency was represented on Friday night by Gorta chairperson Deirdre Fox, while a number of medical volunteers who travel to Zambia with Dr O'Driscoll twice yearly also attended.
