THIS Friday Abbeyleix Further Education Centre will launch their end of year exhibition in the Dunamaise Arts Centre, which will run until July 8.

The work on display includes a piece from each student who has completed either FETAC level 5 or 6 within the art department of the centre. The range of work varies from drawing to painting, ceramics to textiles and allows the viewer an insight into the varied disciplines available. This year each student was given the opportunity to submit a proposal to Dunamaise. This professional approach gave the students a taste of the process involved in applying to exhibit work in the professional arena.

This is the 13th year of Art/Craft/ Design at Abbeyleix FEC and the 4th year of Art and Business. Emphasis within the art department has always been on a high standard of art education within an environment that allows, encourages and nurtures the creative process. The studio in Abbeyleix prides itself on an individual approach to learning and the development of contemporary art practice. The benefit of this can be seen in the number of students who have successfully progressed to third level.

On the opening night a newly published book ‘Recording Space and Place’ will be available. This book was produced by the students of Art/Craft and Design level 5 as part of their work experience. The idea for this book came from a discussion about the journey of learning in a studio based environment. Each student was asked to interpret and create an image which reflected their own understanding of space and place in the area in which they work. The exhibition opens at 6pm this Friday May 25 and all are welcome. For more on the students and course check out ACD Art Abbeyleix on Facebook.
