Adela and the Meanits - week four
On August 21 we headed down to The Rose of Tralee International Festival. We passed Daithi O’ Shea in the Carlton Hotel but we simply didn’t have time to stop and chat - sorry Daithi!
This festival is mighty craic, really enjoyed ourselves, as did our audience! After a very late night and the near kidnapping of our puppets we headed off for Bourke’s Bar, Limerick to play a lunchtime gig. This pub is full of cool vibes and even cooler characters, we will be back to this venue for sure.
After a brief stop off in Bunratty Castle we continued on our journey to play our second gig of the day in Kenny’s Bar Lahinch. As soon as we switched the car ignition off we fell asleep with our mouths wide open for a full three hours before unloading all the gear and summoning up the energy for our awaiting audience. The crowd were really brilliant and gave us a great reception. We definitely made a few fans in Co Clares number one surfing town.
Our trip to the Grand Hotel in Tramore was a real treat. Hotel rooms provided and as much food and drink as we could possibly consume, we were made to feel like royalty for the night... sound out Irene. This woman knows her music! Sleep deprived we made the Trip to Tipp for Belly Bang Festival... a cool little festival with an energetic audience... we had them up dancing and shouting for more in no time at all!
Next on our hit list was JJ Harlows in Roscommon, a regular haunt of ours at this stage, Brian deserves a special mention for putting on original acts every Saturday night. After a delicious stew made by the Kangley sisters, it was off to Edward Valentines in Longford the following day for the first of two gigs. Super cool pub, we would love to do a night time gig here again. No sooner was the gear packed when we had to unload it again for Jackie’s Bar as part of the Ballinnamore Free Fringe Festival.
Wrecked tired we headed back to our home county to prepare for our penultimate gig in neighbouring Co. Kildare. As we play the Athy Community Arts Centre we add a little church to our list of strange venues. A warm intimate gig with friends, family and fans and a great chance to record a gig with Joe ‘the Sound’ Salmon and his crew from Frank’s Shed. A special thanks to Bríd also for being a great host. So just one gig left to go and we will have completed all 33 gigs in 28 days. Thanks a million to everyone who helped out and supported our tour - fair play to ye!
