THIS weekend is a busy one in Lethean with music three nights in a row. Friday sees Frantic Jack return for an acoustic set, Saturday sees popular rockers The Valves take to the stage and Sunday is the first Lethean gig for duo The Bluffers.

The Bluffers are a two piece acoustic duo. They formed at Christmas 2011 and have notched up a number of local venues to date . They are a Laois Dublin mix with Scott Brown on vocals and guitar and Karen Moore on vocals, mandolin and banjo. Their idea is to play modern chart music using the traditional instruments.

Thus far they have been received really well . Many people remarking on the refreshing sound of the guitar / mandolin mix and their strong vocal harmonies. Their influences come from the likes of Coldplay , Rihanna, Mumford and Sons, Ed Sheeran, Kings of Leon,The Killers, Adele , Paolo Nutini and The Stunning.

Just to spice it up they have been known to throw in the odd jig and reel. Karen has been gigging professionally for the last 10 years. She was part of a ballad group called Whiskey Still regularly playing around the capital. Scott has been playing guitar and singing since he was a young boy. They both want to create something which is musically different to the norm and feel they have achieved this with their choice in set lists.

The Valves play a very mixed bag of covers with a quirky, energetic feel. Songs that shaped indie rock from the 50s to today .From classic surf guitar to recent Indie rock ,through six decades of influences. Always crowd pleasers, The Valves bring their own eclectic tastes to their set lists. For more information check out Lethean’s Facebook page.
