Childrens’ book festival visits Laois

THE Childrens’ Book Festival runs throughout the month of October and there are plenty of events taking place around Laois libraries to keep younger readers happy.

As well as a wide variety of national events, libraries around the county have lots to keep young readers happy. In Portlaoise Library there will be storytelling for three to six year olds every Tuesday at 11am, as well as a number of other events, including treasure box craft on October 31, and a Thomas the Tank Engine party on November 1.

In Mountmellick Library there will be storytime and colouring from 4pm to 5pm on Thursday October 4, and on Thursday October 18. There will also be a games club for 10 to 12 year olds on Thursday October 11 and Thursday October 25. Next Tuesday October 9 sees the Summer Reading Challenge Awards take place in the library, and there is lots more to suit all ages. Every Thursday in Abbeyleix Library there is storytelling and singing for children aged from three to six. This takes place from 3pm to 4pm and all are welcome. As well as these, various classes from schools around the county have been invited to a number of events taking place with well known authors. As well as this, there are plenty of other book related events. For more contact the libraries, visit www.childrensbooksireland.ie and read next week’s Stage Left.
