Classic comedy and Italian theatre
THE Dunamaise Arts Centre will be bringing Goldoni’s classic comedy, live music, tasty tapas – Wonderland’s hit staging of La Locandiera to Portlaoise as it transforms well known Spago’s Restaurant in Portlaoise into 18th century Florence on Saturday October 17.
‘La Locandiera’ is one of Italy’s most celebrated comedy plays. Wonderland’s sparkling period production includes a delicious dinner with wine accompanied with a generous helping of live Neapolitan arias and folk songs from Mirandolina and her admirers.
The seductive innkeeper Mirandolina has every man at her feet – they cover her in diamonds and cower about her like puppy dogs. Until ‘the declared enemy of Italian women’ - the Ulster Gentleman checks in, that is.

As well as this the Dunamaise will be presenting Vladimir Jablokov as he invites Laois audiences to share One Night In Vienna. The Slovak violin sensation will be playing some of the most beautiful classical melodies from the Romantic era of The Strauss Family at the Dunamaise Arts Centre on Friday October 19.
These very special shows highlight the more traditional side of Vladimir’s musical spectrum. Having wowed audiences across the nation with the stunning classics – meets – rock – meets jazz fusion he calls Classical Twist; One Night In Vienna is a show devoted to the evergreen classical touch stones. Expect to hear The Blue Danube, Tales From The Vienna Woods, the Tritsch-Tratsch Polka, the Radetsky March Merry Widow Waltz, Vienna City Of My Dreams and many more.
Vladimir performed sell out shows in many of the countries leading venues; including the National Concert Hall, Cork Opera House, and The Gaiety Theatre. As well as being a showcase for Vladimir’s virtuoso violin skills, ‘One Night In Vienna’ also features his hand picked musicians, all members of the Slovak Festival Orchestra.
