THOSE who want something a little different for the June bank holiday weekend can take themselves to Inistioge for their summer festival. Now in its fourth year this popular festival continues to be about traditional fun and games for all the family. There are pony rides, lost skills demonstrations, circus performers, dog shows, vintage cars, busking corner and many more activities.

On Saturday June 2 at 5pm the festival kicks off with a special family 3k run with prizes for the fastest buggy, egg and spoon and funniest hat. On Sunday, the GAA pitch will be transformed into one big playground with a packed programme of events including traditional games from 1pm to 5.30pm. Kids and adults alike will be wowed by fire juggling, stilt walking and live music. The kids games include a free supervised bouncy castle, a free circus workshop, pony rides, body zorbs, stocks, face painting and much more. Plus for animal enthusiasts this year’s festival again includes a dog show.

To recharge the batteries there are plenty of drinks and food stalls to whet the appetite. Catering for every budget, they include a summer BBQ, a marquee serving teas, coffees and locally produced homemade treats along with many gourmet food stalls. In the craft and farmers market there will be a wide range of handmade crafts, childrens’ toys and a variety of organic local produce. On Sunday evening Fourpenny Rock and Hatchery Folk will be giving a free open air concert in the Millennium Garden in the heart of Inistioge village. Entrance is free for children and €5 for adults.
