The Barn Dance, in its second year running, is a one day music festival held in the Square Bar in Portlaoise. The festival aims to showcase some of the best local up and coming acts in the greater Laois area.

Founded by Declan Dunne, he was inspired by his passion for music and seeing the support for the Laois Bands for Electric Picnic campaign and decided to set up this gig to raise much needed funds for the charity Development Perspectives, for which he traveled to Tanzania on their Development Education Program in the summer of 2011.

The Barn Dance is taking place this Friday evening, June 15 in the Square Bar. This year’s event will be in aid of the Baby Ellen Fund, to raise vital funds to help pay for her life saving treatment.

This year’s line up is equally as exciting as last year. The evening kicks off at 6pm and first up is local favourite troubadour Brian O’Mahoney followed by David Bowe and Evan Walsh. David and Evan are set to release their much anticipated EPs this summer with David embarking on a nationwide tour very soon.

The Triogue Delta Blues Band take to the stage 8pm with their high octane blues mix. Portlaoise’s biggest soul band SoulSet follows straight after. Power house trio Voodoo are expected on stage around 9.30pm unleashing their hard rock set followed by the wonderfully talented Valves and their clever eclectic mix of all that is good in music over the last number of decades.

Southern Freud take to the stage around 11pm followed by last years winner of Laois Bands for the Electric Picnic, local fourpiece The Little Smoke. The evening concludes with ‘face melting’ DJ Jay Skelly, who has gone from strength to strength over the past few years. For more check out the gig page on Facebook.
