IF people were to get caught in a lie, the outcome would not be half as funny as ‘Move over Mrs Markham’, which Mountmellick Drama Group and director Padraig O’Toole are busy rehearsing.

The show takes place in Mountmellick Community Arts Centre from Thursday February 28 to Saturday March 2 at 8pm each night. The play is set in the top floor London apartment, belonging to Philip Markham (Joe Brennan) and Joanna Markham (Michelle Kirwan). Philip is a straight-laced publisher of children’s books and he shares an office with his partner, Henry Lodge (Padraig O’Toole), on the ground floor. Philip had reluctantly agreed to let Henry borrow his apartment for the evening to entertain his latest girlfriend Felicity Jane Wilkinson (Margaret Lawlor).

At the same time Joanna Markham had been persuaded by Linda Lodge (Heather Joyce) to let her borrow the apartment so she can entertain her lover Walter Pangbourne (Alan Noble). What nobody knows is that the interior designer Alastair Spenlow (Doug Mortimer) who had been decorating the apartment for the past three months had decided that this was the night he and the maid Sylvie (Jessie Conroy) would try out the apartment too.

When the need to impress Authoress Miss Olive Harriet Smythe (Patricia Conroy), who loves her cocker spaniels and her boxer dog are added to the mix, the games begin. Not surprisingly, chaos and confusion ensue. The play is a farce from two of the most successful writers of comedy, Ray Cooney and John Chapman. Tickets are priced at €10 and are available on the door each night. All are welcome to come along and see the talented group take to the stage in this local production.
