Picnic basket of tasty treats

THE Theatre of Food debuted last year at Picnic, such was the success that this year the foodie theatre will be spread over three days rather than two days.

The Theatre of Food is a dedicated food area, which serves as homage to all things gastronomic. Festival-goers can look forward to a host of activities from food demos, wine tasting, food sampling, how to set up a microbrewery to how to make the perfect sausage or sushi. And in keeping with the musical theme of the festival a boy and girl band of chefs all singing, all dancing and all cooking will host a cook off à la ‘ Ready Steady Cook ‘.

The Theatre of Food, next to Mindfield in the Main Arena, features intimate areas for chats over food with someone special as well as spacious outdoor dining areas. A who’s who of Ireland’s chefs will be on hand to share their Picnic experience from Paul Flynn of The Tannery to Derry Clarke of L’Ecrivain, Ross Lewis of Chapter One, Troy Maguire, Catherine Fulvio and Ernie Whalley to name but a few.

For the rest there will be cookery demonstrations in the NEFF kitchen – Cakes and Bakes – Food Debates – Farmer’s Market – Chef Challenges –Tips from the top chefs - Competitions for Festival Goers – and much, much more. And of course no picnic would be complete without Sally and John McKenna of the Bridgestone food guide. For the last five years the Bridgestone Guide Awards at Electric Picnic have celebrated the extraordinary lengths which the organisers go to ensure that Festival-goers enjoy not just great sounds but also great food.
