The Portlaoise Camera Club is on a high after some their members had pictures recognised by the Irish Photographic Federation.

The IPF award three levels of distinctions to photographers and a number of members travelled to Limerick last month to have their work assesed.

The highest distinction that can be awarded is that of Fellowship, the photographer submits a panel of 20 images that must show a higher level of originality, cohesion, technical ability and the panel of images must communicate to the adjudicators the idea and intent behind the panel.

Carl Cutland submitted a stunning panel of 15 images of liquid collision drops and the adjudicators unanimously awarded him his Assoicatship. The adjudicator commented that it was one of the best panel submissions they had ever seen. The quality of his work was rewarded with an extra day of exhibition.

The Builin Blasta Cafe in the Craft centre in Spiddal (Carl’s home from home) will be hosting an exhibition of his liquid collision shots titled ‘Fluidity’ this month. The opening night is September 29.

Ciara Drennan submitted a visually compelling panel of ten images consisting of childrens portraiture, creative table top photography and live music photography and again was unanimously awarded her Licentiate Distinction.

Gerard Ryan submitted ten images that represented his varied skills as a photographer with a range of sports photography, portraits, landscape and abstract images. Again Gerard was awarded his Licentiate.

The club are very proud of all the panels that were submitted for Distinctions on the day. The pictures can be viewed both on the Portlaoise Camera Club website www.portlaoisecameraclub.com and their Facebook Page www.facebook.com/PortlaoiseCameraClub.

The club has just resumed it’s weekly meetings in the Parish Centre Portlaoise at 8pm on Wednesdays and have an exciting programme of events lined up including : external speakers, workshops, outings, an exhibition, monthly themes etc.
