Following their three sell out summer concerts at the Dunamaise Theatre recentle, Portlaoise’s family friendly choir, the 65 Kitchen Choir, have given a generous donation to the Laois branch of the Irish Heart Foundation.

Choir member Anne Smyth was grateful for the strong local support for their annual show.

“We want to send a heartfelt thanks to the people of the community who came out to show their support. They made it possible for us to make a donation of €1,000 to the Heart Foundation charity and that was really important to us, it truly was from the heart,” she said.

The choir is comprised mostly of extended members of several Portlaoise families, and the 28 of them gather in choir leader Caroline Smith’s kitchen at 65 Marian Avenue to rehearse, hence the name.

“We are a motley crew of singers, all related, intermarried or parents and children, Caroline cobbles us together with her genius,” her sister said modestly.

The show was filled with lots of chart hits new and old, complete with eyecatching costumes by designer Michelle Preston.

“I hope we did a good job, they all left the hall laughing anyway, but it’s important for us to say thank you,” she said.

The 65 Kitchen Choir CD is on sale at AllBooks in Lyster Square, priced €10.
