Rock night to remember Aoife Phelan

A NUMBER of local musicians have come together to host a rock night in aid of the late Aoife Phelan. The night will take place in Whelan’s in Aoife’s native Ballyroan on Friday January 11.

Organisers of the event said that the night was a fitting tribute for the music fan.

“Aoife was a great supporter of local bands, so a few of us decided that it would be fitting to remember her with something she lived for - music. Lets make it a good night for Aoife and celebrate her life. We hope everyone comes out to rock the place like she would have”.

There are five loacl acts performing on the night, with something to suit everyone’s tastes. Acts playing include Rapunzel’s Wig, James’ O’ Connor, Love Spreads, Lounge Act and I Am Godzilla You Are Japan. Rapunzel’s Wig grew in popularity over the past few years bringing their brand of punk rock to Portlaoise. Always energetic gigs, the fourpiece no doubt will have the audience swinging from the rafters.

James O’ Connor is one of Laois’ finest exports, and with a top ten hit and a show at Electric Picnic under his belt, is one to watch. For those who have seen him perform, they know they are in for a real treat.

Love Spread have been very busy over the festive season bringing their tribute to the Stone Roses all around the county. They will also be performing on the night for those who want to relive their youth. I Am Godzilla You Are Japan will also be playing on the night, with their eclectic set list and enigmatic, energetic frontman, they will have heads bopping and feet tapping.

All acts are well known and loved and their gigs were frequently attended by Aoife.

All are welcome to come along on the night, tell everyone, bring friends and remember Aoife. There is no charge for the night but there will be a number of collection buckets at the venue for people to make donations. Any proceeds raised will be going to local charities which will be chosen by Aoife’s family. The night kicks off at 8pm and all are encouraged to come along.
