THE Dunamaise Arts Centre was delighted to see well known Irish radio and television presenter Séan Bán Breathnach attending their Christmas auction last week at the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel.

The auction, which preliminary figures show to have raised in excess of €6,000, was organised as part of a fundraising campaign to help keep Dunamaise Arts Centre open, with proceeds also going to Laois Tourism. Remaining items are still being sold from the Dunamaise Arts Centre so it is hoped that the preliminary funds raised will be exceeded even further.

Louis Brennan, chairman of the board of the Dunamaise was delighted with the outcome.

“The Dunamaise Arts Centre wishes to thank all who attended and sponsored the event, donated and purchased items, or volunteered to help on the night, which was a great support to us. I would also like to thank John Dunne and Caroline Larkin from Hume Auctioneers who did a tremendous job in banging the gavel, along with Sean Bán Breathnach, who made the journey especially to help on the night”.

Some of the more valuable and popular items on the night included two vouchers for Brown Thomas worth €1,000 each; a pair of boxing gloves signed by Olympic medallists; a private master class and lunch with renowned Laois artist Gemma Guihan; a Hurley signed by the Kilkenny Senior Hurling team and breeches signed by jockeys including Ruby Walsh among many other unique gifts and handcrafted items.

Those interested in viewing remaining items and supporting Dunamaise Arts Centre, can do so by checking www.dunamaise.ie.
