Singers Spring serenade

THE popular Portlaoise Singers will be taking to the stage in the Heritage Hotel in Portlaoise on Sunday evening March 10 for a special fundraising concert.

On the night they will be joined by 30 members of the Carrigaline Singers to form a 90 strong choir. There will be music to suit every taste from Broadway Shows to ‘The Holy City’ and from Chicago to Mama Mia to the best loved songs of The Beatles. To round off the night the combined choirs will sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and ‘The Holy City’.

Also appearing on the night will be well known local sopranos Patricia Finnegan and Niamh Griffin, singing some audience favourites. Patricia Finnegan Newell holds an Honours Performance Degree from Trinity College Dublin, an Honours Graduate Diploma in Music from the DIT Conservatory of Music and a Diploma in Music Teaching (Vocal), also from the Conservatory. Niamh is currently completing a masters in music therapy in UL.Eleven year old Emo native Clodagh Dunne who won many admirers at the Portlaoise Singers’ Christmas concert last year, will be back singing ‘Think of Me’ from The Phantom of the Opera. Clodagh has won a number of awards with her version of this song, and she will be accompanied on the night by Brian MacNamara on the Steinway Grand. All performers are giving their time and talents for free for the event. All proceeds from the concert will go to local charities The Cuisle Centre, the Lions Club and The Arch Club. Tickets priced at €15 are available from Grahams Newsagents, Breslins Pharmacy, Smaointe and on the door.
