Village wooing in Roundwood

Village Wooing

Village Wooing

AS the summer has drawn to a close, Roundwood House are beginning another dinner-theatre season after a number of successful shows last year. This Saturday October 13, sees the venue welcome back Michael Ford and Bewley’s Cafe Theatre, with their production of Bernard Shaw’s ‘Village Wooing’.

Shaw’s classic comedy Village Wooing is famous for its exploration of the mystical and inexplicable nature of sexual love.

On the deck of the cruise ship, the Empress of Patagonia, an upper class travel writer has his work interrupted by a chatty young phone operator with romantic intentions. Despite his crabby reluctance, he is gradually drawn into conversation and they embark on an hilarious bout of verbal jousting in which all sorts of personal secrets are revealed.

They part, only to meet again some months later, by a remarkable coincidence, in a village shop on the Wiltshire Downs. The two continue to bicker and irritate each other, but out of their squabbles the unlikeliest of romances develops. Tickets for this show are priced at €50 and can be bought by contacting 057 87 32120. Dinner will be served at 7:30pm and people can come at 7pm for a drink by the fire.

The play begins at 9pm. All are welcome to stay on after for drinks and mischief in the drawing room.

As well as this Roundwood House is one of the hosts for the annual Slieve Bloom Storytelling festival on Thursday October 11. The storytellers are Nuala Hayes, Kate Corkery, Colm Sands and Niall De Burca. Tickets can be bought at 086 2789147.
