Werewolf visits Laois library

Author Maura Byrne

Author Maura Byrne

THE author of ‘Bridget in Werewolf Rehab’, Maura Byrne, will be visiting Mountmellick Library on Tuesday October 23 and Abbeyleix on October 24. The debut book is the mad-cap, comic story for nine to twelve year olds about what happens to werewolves who aren’t savage beasts and vampires who hate blood.

For reluctant readers and reluctant werewolves like Bridget, Maura is determined to get kids to pick up books using a captivating style and this hilarious fantasy is perfect to get their teeth into. She can be found every other week enthralling young readers in local libraries reading and discussing passages from her comic fantasy book, ‘Bridget in Werewolf Rehab’, leading ‘howling practice’ with her young audiences and introducing them to writing tips like using the five senses when writing.

Bridget (aimed at nine to twelve year olds), is the story of a thirteen year old werewolf. With the onset of puberty, Bridget’s animal side is emerging. When she rejects her wolfish nature, Bridget’s mother dumps her into Herr Wolf’s international werewolf rehab. There Bridget meets the nuttiest werewolves ever.

She must endure compulsory shape shifting (changing into wolf form), inner wolf therapy and live mice breakfasts. She hates it all. The mad cap adventures really kick off when Bridget’s life is saved by a bunch of no-hope vampires attending Dracul’s rehab on the other side of the river. Mayhem and attempted murder ensue until Bridget has to decide to accept her true identity and unleash the animal within.
