Multicultural festival for Portlaoise

All parts of the community are invited to the Celebration of Culture and Food Festival 2012 in Portlaoise this weekend.

The event will be held on Saturday, September 25 at Portlaoise Leisure Centre from 12 noon to 6pm. The organisers say it is a family day out featuring food from over 20 countries, music from 4 countries, face painting, display of cultural artefacts and story-telling.

Other activities on the day, includes cultural activities such as Afro-Caribbean hair do, Afro-Caribbean Fashion Parade & head gear, African Sewing Mistress and Fashion designer.

Also on hand on the day is multicultural street market where lots of quality and less expensive items will be available to buy.

The Festival is aimed at celebrating the many cultures that make up Laois, promote integration and facilitate cross-cultural dialogue using cultural attributes such as music, food, arts, etc.

Celebration of Culture and Food Festival 2012 is organised by Voices Across Cultures and Laois Ethnic Minority Support Group in collaboration with Portlaoise Leisure Centre, Laois Community Forum and Laois Partnership.
