Portlaoise Youth Cafe in conjunction with Dunamaise Arts Centre is showing the film ‘We are The Best’ in the Dunamaise theatre on Saturday, February 7, at 12pm.

This 2013 Swedish movie is a thoroughly enjoyable story of three teenage punkettes who strain and struggle with life, love and music in Stockholm in the early 1980s.

Based on the semi-autobiographical graphic novel Never Goodnight by Coco Moodysson, the film details the deep and warm friendship between Bobo and the ever-smiling Klara. They manage to snag some time in the youth club music room. As neither can actually play an instrument, they recruit classmate Hedvig, a trained guitarist whose strict Christian upbringing also makes her something of an outcast at school.

The three young actresses are all excellent, though the relationship between Bobo and Klara is the heart of this charming film.

‘We Are The Best’ is rated 15A and stars Mira Barkhammar, Mira Grosin, Liv LeMoyne, Johan Lijemark, and Mattias Wiberg.

Tickets, priced €5, are available from the Youth Cafe, message them on the Facebook page Portlaoise Youth Cafe’, or by contacting the Dunamaise Arts Centre.
