Laois has received just €182,775 of funding for the arts under the government’s grant allocations for 2015, to be divided among three local bodies.
It’s a relatively small amount, given that The Arts Council is distributing some €30 million to more than 200 arts organisations around the country.
Laois County Council’s Arts Service has been awarded funding of €67,300 from the Arts Council, with key initiatives in the county including the Laois School of Music, Music Generation Laois, Laois Youth Theatre, and the Arthouse Studios and Residency programme in Stradbally.
The Dunamaise Arts Centre has been awarded funding of €110,000, to continue its tradition of delivering a programme of touring multi-disciplinary events and visual arts exhibitions.
And The Association of Irish Stage Technicians, based at the Dunamaise Arts Centre, has received funding of €5,475. The Association is a resource and training organisation for the stage technician industry within Ireland, and offers training and education, and acts as a forum for discussion and information sharing.
Among the larger grants offered nationally was €390,000 for Kilkenny Arts Festival.
